India on Day 2 at CWG 2022 : 4 medals (All Weightlifting):
• Star lifter Mirabai Chanu wins 1st GOLD medal for India in CWG-2022. Mirabai lifted a total of kg (88kg in Snatch & in C&J); huge 29kg more than 2nd placed lifter. Created New Games record in Snatch, C&J & Total
• Sanket Sargar won 1st medal for India at Birmingham Commonwealth Games and its a Silver in Weightlifting (Men's 55kg category). Sanket lifted total of 248kg (113 in Snatch + 135kg in C&J). Malaysian lifted 249kg overall to win Gold.
• Bindyarani Devi win Silver medal in Weightlifting (55kg) lifted total of 202 kg (86kg in Snatch + 116kg in C&J). Bindyarani also created new Games Record in C&J section.
• 2nd medal for India; Gururaja Poojary won Bronze medal in Weightlifting (Men's 61kg) after lifted 269 kg (118kg in Snatch + 151 kg in C&J). Gururaj had won Silver medal in last edition (56kg).
Badminton:
Team India Into the Quarter-finals in style of mixed team event. India wins the final group stage tie against the Australia 4-1 to remain unbeaten in the group stage at the CWG 2022.
Boxing:
• Lovlina Borgohain advanced to Quarter Final (70kg) with unanimous verdict win over Kiwi pugilist in 1st round. Lovlina will take on Welsh pugilist on Wednesday.
• Mohammad Husammuddin is through to Pre-QF (57kg) after getting the better of Amzolele Dyeyi of South Africa by unanimous verdict in 1st round.
Table Tennis:
Defending Champions India Knocked out by Malaysia 2-3 in Quarter Final of Women's Team event.
Swimming:
Srihari Nataraj finished 7th in FINAL of Men's 100m Backstroke event clocking 54.31 secs. Srihari is only 4th Indian swimmer ever to qualify for Final at CWG.
Hockey:
Indian Women's Defeated Wales (WR 24) 3-1 in their 2nd pool match. India will take on WR 5 England next on Tuesday. Earlier India had defeated Ghana 5-0 yesterday.
Squash:
• Joshna Chinappa sails in to Pre-QF with 3-0 win in 2nd round. Joshna had got a 1st round Bye. Sunayna Kuruvilla lost in 2nd round to WR 24 Aifa Azman. She had got 1st round Bye.
• Saurav Ghosal sails in to Pre-QF with 3-0 win in 2nd round. Saurav had got a 1st round Bye.
• Youngest Indian athlete at Birmingham, 14 year old Anahat Singh gave her absolute best before going down to WR 19 Emily Whitlock 7-11, 7-11, 11-4, 6-11 in 2nd round.
• Abhay Singh retired hurt midway against WR 48 Alan Clyne in R32 match.
