Day 7 Results: Team India

Athletics:

• Murali Sreeshankar creates history by becoming 1st ever Indian athlete to win a medal in Men's Long Jump event at Commonwealth Games. Sreeshankar's Best attempt: 8.08m, Here's a interesting bit: Sreeshankar best attempt was same as that of Laquan Nairn of Bahamas (8.08m) but Sreeshankar takes the Silver as incase of tie, the jumper with the longer second best jump is awarded the medal. Sree's 2nd best: 7.84 | Laquan's 2nd Best: 7.98m

• Hima Das has advanced to 200m Semis after topping her Heat clocking 23.42s (overall 8th out of 36 athletes). Semis scheduled for tomorrow at 0053 hrs IST

• Manju Bala has advanced to Final of Women's Hammer Throw. With best attempt of 59.68m (exactly 15m behind the leader!), Manju finished 11th overall in Qualification round. Final scheduled for Saturday.

Hockey:

Men's Hockey: India advance to Semis with 4-1 win over Wales in their final Group match. Harmanpreet scored a hattrick. India finish their Group stage with 10 points (3 wins & a draw). India likely to top their Group.

Para Powerlifting:

GOLD medal to end the day for India Sudhir won Gold medal in Para Powerlifting (Men's Heavyweight) | 1st Para athlete to win a medal here at Birmingham 

Badminton:

• Both P.V Sindhu & Kidambi Srikanth are through to Singles Pre-QFs with easy straight game wins in 2nd round over lower rankled shuttlers. Both Sindhu & Srikanth received 1st round Byes.

• Ashwini Ponnappa & Sumeeth Reddy lose in 2nd round of Mixed Doubles. The Indian duo lost to WR 47 English pair 18-21, 16-21 . Ashwini & Sumeeth received 1st round Bye.

• Aakarshi Kashyap (WR 57) survives a scare against WR 165 & 6 time Pakistani National Champion Mahoor in R1 . Mahoor retired midway with score 22-20, 8-1 in favour of Aakarshi. Aakarshi was 2 game points down at 18-20 before scoring 4 consecutive points.

• Lakshya Sen sails into Pre-QF of Men's Singles with 21-4, 21-5 win in 2nd round. Lakshya received 1st round Bye.

Boxing:

• Star Boxer Amit Panghal advances to Semis (51kg) with unanimous verdict (5:0) win over Scottish pugilist. 4 medals assured for India (so far & counting) in Boxing.

• Jaismine Lamboria advances to Semis (60kg) with split verdict (4:1) win over Kiwi pugilist. 5 medals assured for India (so far & counting) in Boxing.

• Sagar advances to Semis (+92kg) with unanimous verdict (5:0) win over Seychelles pugilist. 6 medals assured for India (so far & counting) in Boxing.

Table Tennis: 

• Sathiyan Gnanasekaran & Manika Batra sail into Pre-QF of Mixed Doubles with 3-0 win in 2nd round. The Indian pair had received 1st round Bye.

• Sharath Kamal & Sreeja Akula sail into Pre-QF of Mixed Doubles with 3-0 win in 2nd round. The Indian pair had received 1st round Bye.

• Sreeja Akula moves into Pre-QF of Women's Singles with 4-1 win in 1st round.

• Reeth Tennison moves into Pre-QF of Women's Singles with 4-1 win in 1st round.
