Mumbai, 26th March 2022: 1st Match of Indian Premier League (IPL) saw the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat the Chennai Super King (CSK) by 6 Wickets at Wankhede Stadium.
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and, skipper Shreyas Iyer asked Ravindra Jadeja led Chennai Super King to bat first.
Chennai Super King lost their first wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 1st over at 2 runs. CSK didn’t start off well as 2 wickets tumbled within the powerplay itself. MS Dhoni added 70 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket. MS Dhoni scored 50 runs in 38 balls with Seven fours and one six. CSK could only score 131 runs for the five wickets in 20 Overs.
Umesh Yadav (2/20) were the main wicket-takers for the Knight Riders. Varun Chakravarthy, and Andre Russell chipped in with one wicket each.
Chasing the target of 132 runs, Knight Riders openers Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer added 43 runs for the first wicket. Ajinkya Rahane played a superb Knock in the low scoring run chase. He scored 44 runs in 34 balls including 6 Fours and 1 Six. Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 6 Wickets against CSK. Shreyas Iyer finished the match with a four on his Captaincy debut for KKR. KKR achieved the target after lost four wickets in 18.3 over. Dwayne Bravowere (3/20) the main wicket-takers for the RCB.
