PKL 2021: Probable starting date and venues for PKL Season 8

PKL 2021

The auction for the eighth edition of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) marked the grand return of the competition after two long years. The PKL was initially set to take place in 2020 but was postponed following the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

As per sources, PKL Season 8 could likely commence on December 10th later this year. The tournament will likely continue to follow its double round-robin format in the span of three months, which was also the format for the seventh edition.

This means that pre-season camps for all 12 franchises could take place by the end of October or the first week of November. The teams are awaiting an official announcement from Mashal Sports, as they have already rebuilt their squads at the PKL 2021 Auction earlier in August.

The auction of PKL Season 8 witnessed many intense bidding wars and strategizing among the 12 franchises. ‘Record-breaker’ Pardeep Narwal grabbed the headlines at the auction, where the UP Yoddha splurged a whopping ₹1.65 crores to sign him for PKL 8. Moreover, Siddharth Desai became a Crorepati for a second successive season, where the Telugu Titans exercised their FBM card to snap him for ₹1.30 crores.

PKL Season 8 likely to take place in Bengaluru

The PKL’s eighth season is likely to be held in Bengaluru later this year. Bangalore’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium is the first choice for the organizers to host the league for the entirety of three months. However, it is also possible that Ahmedabad and Hyderabad could be backup options if things don’t proceed as planned by Mashal Sports and the related organizers.

PKL 2021 will follow the COVID-19 protocols for this season, with the formation of the bio-bubble for all the franchises. An announcement is yet to be made regarding where the teams could stay and whether there will be isolation for the players before pre-season camps.
